GUDANG) port, PTP is situated in the state of Johor on the southwestern tip of
Peninsular Malaysia, which lies at the mouth of Pulai
River where draws natural deep draft (at least 15m) for international shipping
and also it is positioned with a minimum diversion time from the confluence of
international shipping lanes which guarantees immense potential of extensive
traffic.
The approach channel that
measures 12.6km in length, 250m in width and also the turning basin of 600m,
presents a geographical advantage to vessel operators i.e. EVERGREEN with its
ability to ensure immediate berthing for vessels thus reducing waiting time
significantly.
2. Container
Handling Equipments
PTP currently has 14 Super
Post Panamax quayside cranes with an 18-box outreach.
To cater to the next generation of container vessels, 5 quaycranes
with an outreach of 22 boxes across has already been installed with additional
5 similar quaycranes to be delivered end of August,
2002.
At the container yard, 52
Rubber-Tyred-Gantry (RTG) cranes are currently
operational but a full ratio of 72 RTGs and a full
complement of prime movers and trailers will be deployed to ensure high efficiency.
These RTGs are able to lift 40 tonnes
and stack containers 1 over 5 high and 7 across. Just for your information, PTP has just
established a new record for vessel productivity during mid-June, 2002 by
handling 185 containers per hour using five Super Post Panamax
cranes which is moving closer to its aim of 200 moves per hour for berth
productivity.

of 360m each, for a total of 2.16km of linear wharf length upon completion of
the 1st phase of its development, which cost about RM2.4 billion. Directly
behind the berths is the port's container yard with 110,000 TEUs
storage capacity which is one of the largest contanier
storage facilities in the region.
The container yard also provision for well over 2,000 reefer points,
enhancing the port's attractiveness towards reefer trade. There is also a
segregated cargo area for DG cargoes.
